TILBURG – August 2024 — Since 1996, Concertzaal Tilburg has been an important platform for a wide range of performances and programs, from classical concerts to pop music and lectures. The auditorium, with 747 seats, is renowned for its versatility, hosting small orchestras, full-scale concerts, festivals, theatre, and conferences. To better serve its audience, Concertzaal Tilburg has upgraded its audio with the new L-Acoustics Kara II sound system. This new system represents a significant step forward in both quality and experience for artists and visitors alike.

“Our goal with this upgrade was to address several acoustic challenges,” says Pernel van Herpt, Technical Manager at Concertzaal Tilburg. “The Kara II system gives us the flexibility to achieve consistent sound quality throughout the entire auditorium across our full range of programming.”

The design, created by Fairlight, a certified distributor in the Netherlands, focused on delivering transparent and balanced sound. For ground-floor coverage, a left-right main PA was implemented, each consisting of eight Kara II line array speakers. Using the patented Panflex technology, wall reflections were avoided while maintaining a wide stereo image.

Six KS21 subwoofers are centrally flown in two columns of three, providing consistent low-frequency coverage and benefiting from both cardioid and end-fire technology, which minimizes stage reflections. Five 5XT speakers provide coverage for the front row. The hall features two balconies, which are served by a system of 5XT and A10i speakers in white, seamlessly integrated with the auditorium’s architecture. A P1 processor manages Milan-AVB networking in conjunction with LA4X and LA7.16i amplifiers.

René van der Linden of Fairlight stated, “We greatly enjoyed collaborating with Concertzaal Tilburg on this project. The new system delivers a significant improvement in both sound quality and coverage, enhancing the overall experience for the audience.”

A wide range of events will benefit from this upgrade, from acoustic performances requiring subtle support to full-scale concerts, as well as improved speech intelligibility for conferences and other spoken-word events.

Pernel van Herpt, Technical Manager at Concertzaal Tilburg, adds: “The new Kara II concert sound system fits seamlessly within the hall’s décor. This upgrade is part of our ongoing effort to position Concertzaal Tilburg as a leading venue for arts and culture in the region.”

This audio upgrade represents the next step in the venue’s evolution, ensuring that Concertzaal Tilburg continues to serve as a hub for diverse artistic expressions and gatherings. The venue is set to remain both relevant and highly valued in the years to come.
